The Somm for Everyone, Sarah Looper
The last few days in the Basque Country have unfolded as a sensory banquet: avant-garde art in Bilbao, medieval stone castles perched above the sea, and succulent lamb roasted over grapevines, paired with velvety reds from the vines next door. Tonight, you’ll embark on a pintxos crawl through the historic bustle of San Sebastián, and tomorrow promises exclusive access to fish markets, wine estates and cider houses. But for now, in this timeless haven, you raise a glass of cider and relish every detail— its tannic, earthy notes, the whisper of white Mamula apples and the esteemed company of kindred spirits at the sprawling table before you. This is Northern Spain like you never imagined, and there’s a revelation in every bite.

3 Reasons to Travel with Sarah Looper
Sarah Looper’s accolades stretch far and wide: she’s led wine programs at some of New York’s most revered dining spots, from the Metropolitan Opera to Greenwich Village's Mas Farmhouse. In her newest venture, Loopersomm's Pick In A Box wine club, she continues to be the somm for everyone by providing personally picked wines every quarter. Sarah is unquestionably among the wine world’s elite, yet she’s most passionate about sharing her expertise with others—spreading joy one Txakoli at a time.

Somm for Everyone
Deemed the working class hero of the wine world, Sarah breaks down complex tasting themes with ease and fluidity. She’s a favorite lead wine educator at Murray’s Cheese in NYC and deeply passionate about sharing the full story of both the wine and its maker.
Foodie First
While Sarah’s best known for her extensive wine wisdom, at her core she’s a foodie—and a bonafide one at that. A graduate of The Culinary Institute of America’s Baking & Pastry program, her pairings are agile and intuitive, the just-right match for Northern Spain’s crisp txakoli, rustic cider, and the region’s endlessly snackable pintxos culture.
Basque Bottles
Spain’s Basque Country and Rioja region are rich with wines that feel entirely of their own world—refreshing, distinctive, and wildly under-discovered. For Sarah, it’s a playground of flavor and storytelling, where even the smallest glass holds something rare and unforgettable.

Where We Sleep

Traditional architecture meets contemporary design. Enjoy the understated luxury and sophistication of our boutique Basque Country hotels.
*On rare occasions, our hotels will change. Our standards for luxury and authenticity will not.
The Artist Grand Hotel of Art
BilbaoSituated between the Fine Arts Museum, Iberdrola Tower and Euskalduna Palace, this design-forward hotel is an art lover’s destination unto itself. It’s located just a stone’s throw from almost everything Bilbao is known for, and so close to the Guggenheim that it almost feels like Jeff Koons’s 43-foot-tall puppy is about to charge the lobby. Make like a local and throw back a cocktail on the beautiful rooftop terrace.

Eurostars Los Agustinos
Álava, RiojaLocated in a picturesque village center in the heart of Rioja, the Eurostars Los Agustinos provides a historic home base amid the vineyards of Northern Spain. The 1373 building originally housed nuns as a convent, and has served as a Spanish military barracks, local jail and hospital. Now, its ochre stone walls and central cloister welcome visitors for merry holidays steeped in world-class gastronomy and elegant wines

Hotel Catalonia Donosti
San SebastiánHoused in a restored 17th-century convent, this hotel blends historic grandeur with contemporary style in the heart of San Sebastián. Its imposing stone façade gives way to warm, British-inspired interiors with leather headboards, tartan accents, and rich hardwood floors. A rooftop terrace offers sweeping sea views, while the spa, wellness center, and Basque-driven cuisine complete the experience.
