Day by Day

This two-part journey highlights the best of the state, from the rolling fields of the Willamette Valley to the lush and dramatic coastline. Enjoy private tours and tastings at vineyards plus a private dinner with pioneering winemaker David Adelsheim.

Day 1

Welcome to Oregon, the Pacific wonderland of America! Today we celebrate farm-to-table craftsmanship in McMinnville, a charming little town in the heart of the Willamette Valley with no shortage of exceptional cuisine and premium pinots. We’ll visit some of the region’s most notable vineyards for tasting and in-depth appreciation of what makes this bucolic region so special. Of course, we’ll pair our bites with some of our favorite wines for just the occasion.

And with that, as the sun sets over the valley’s bucolic hills, we’ll raise a glass at a glorious welcome dinner at Soter Vineyards with Chef Clayton Allen. It’s the perfect start to our adventure together.

Day 2

After breakfast we head to Résonance, Maison Louis Jadot’s first winery outside of France. Their premier and grand cru vineyards in Burgundy were founded in 1859, the same year as the State of Oregon; they are in the Willamette Valley today because they recognize it is Oregon, more so than California, whose soils and climate unlocks the potential of Pinot noir in the United States.

After a tour and tasting, we’re off to Argyle Winery for lunch paired with their award-winning Pinots and Chardonnays. After some downtime back at our hotel, we close with a private tour of Adelsheim Vineyard, started by David Adelsheim back in the 1970s as the first winery in the Chehalem Mountains appellation. Adelsheim will take us through the process and finish with dinner at the home of David Adelsheim and Eugenia Keegan. Hosting along with them is a Portland-based husband-wife-duo crafting food that makes wine the star of the show. What they’re pairing tonight? Only the finest library wines from David’s private cellar.

Day 3

From the country to the coast, with stops along the way to take in the forests, mountains and raw and rugged Oregon coast. Our first stop is in Netarts Bay for a taste of the true salt of the earth: lunch at the historic US Coast Guard Boathouse with fresh caught crab, local oysters and Adelsheim Pinot blanc vintages. It doesn’t get any fresher than this.

After lunch, we’ll head north up the coast to Cannon Beach, our home for two nights. We’ll check into our hotel, just steps away from the ocean, then take the evening and dinner for ourselves in our oceanfront home base.

Day 4

Start off the day with coffee and stunning ocean views. After breakfast, we’ll head out on an easy 4.5-mile hike up to Cape Falcon, where towering forest greenery gives way to a sprawling dramatic coastline high above the crashing waves. For lunch, we’ll take a break from high-class wines for some spectacular local craft brews with a private tour and meal at Public Coast Brewing Co., cooked specially for us with ingredients sourced from Public Coast’s very own farms.

We’ll get the afternoon to check out Cannon Beach a bit more: explore the pristine beach and marine life around Haystack Rock, or just pop along the shops and galleries. Just be sure to work up an appetite for what’s next: a farewell dinner prepared exclusively for us by a local chef, anchored in the Pacific bounty of Dungeness crab, oysters from Netarts Bay, and maybe even chanterelles foraged from the coastal mountains. We’ll round out the evening with a beach bonfire to stargaze, bubbles in one hand, a s’more in the other, and reflect on the last bit of salty air and pristine views.

Day 5

After a farewell breakfast, we’ll head to Portland and say goodbye to this true Pacific Wonderland. Our time together may be over, but we leave with new bonds made with our fellow adventurers, and with our palates enlightened and our spirits recharged.

  1. What does the price include?

    Four nights at unique, boutique accommodations; private travel for all day trips and excursions; departure airport transfer; private tours with local guides and cultural experts; exclusive VIP access and tastings; guided activities, adventures and expeditions; entrance fees; daily breakfasts, most lunches and dinners; local beverages with meals.

  2. What does the price not include?

    Roundtrip airfare to and from Oregon; travel insurance; transportation to the trip’s starting point; activities not included in the trip itinerary; hotel incidentals including room service, laundry service and hotel bar tabs; food and beverages not included in itinerary; gratuity for tour leader.

  3. Where does the trip start and end?

    Our adventure begins at the Atticus Hotel in McMinnville, Oregon. If you're flying, the closest airport is Portland International Airport (PDX). Our adventure ends in Portland, and if you're flying home, your flight from PDX airport should be scheduled to depart at 2pm or later from here.

  4. What travel documents are needed?

    US citizens and residents should check the TSA’s website for requirements and acceptable ID for domestic air travel. Some State issued IDs may no longer meet TSA standards. If you are a Non-US Citizen traveling to Oregon, visit the US Consulate or Embassy for requirements and information about passports and visas.

  5. Do I need to pay a solo traveler supplement?

    For solo travelers, there is a $1,200 single-supplement fee—paid at the time of booking to secure a private room. These spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  6. Who is going on this trip?

    Our adventures typically have between 10 and 20 guests, and our Modern Adventure team. Our experiences are fun and inclusive and you can expect to be joined by a diverse group in terms of age, background and interests—including solo travelers, couples and friends traveling together. This adventure is for travelers age 21 and above.

  7. Who is leading this trip?

    This trip is led by an expert Modern Adventure trip leader. They're an experienced travel guide, a representative of Modern Adventure and your go-to person for questions or concerns on the trip. We’ll be joined throughout our adventure by local, expert guides who are deeply knowledgeable with respect to local cultures, customs and history and are passionate about sharing that with us.

  8. Do I need travel insurance?

    We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement for your trip costs; if your trip plans change for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to get medical help, emergency transport, and for theft, loss or damage of items while traveling. For best coverage, always insure the full trip cost within two weeks of your initial trip deposit and note that most ‘Cancel For Any Reason’ policies must be purchased on the date of your initial deposit.

  9. What is the cancellation policy?

    You may cancel 120 days or more before departure and receive a full refund minus a $1500 per person service fee ($500 of which may be retained as a future travel credit, valid for one year after cancellation). If you cancel on or after 119 days in advance, there is a 50% cancellation fee. On or after 59 days in advance, there is a 100% cancellation fee. See our full terms and conditions for details.
