You’re sailing through the turquoise iridescence of Marina di Grossetto, savoring a charcuterie lunch with catch-of-the-day seafood and a crisp bianco from the Tuscan hills on the horizon. Tomorrow, you’ll greet the salmon dawn of the same sky from a hot air balloon and float down to earth and into the vineyards of the region’s most storied estates. This is the essence of Italy—every detail, from the wine windows of Florence to the merroir of this glimmering sea, is a brilliant example of symbiosis and tradition, and you can’t help but to close your eyes, breathe in the salty air and take it all in.
Joining you on this journey is award-winning chef and restaurateur, Melissa Perello. Melissa is something of a household name among Italophiles—and for good reason; her dishes and menus have graced the pages of the LA Times, New York Times, San Fransisco Chronicle, and Bon Appetit. Her first restaurant, Frances, was named one of America’s 10 Best New Restaurants and received a Michelin star. Her second restaurant, Octavia, followed suit with its own set of James Beard nominations and another Michelin star. Her map of Rome is sprinkled with her favorite bakeries, markets, and pizzerias, and we can’t wait to be let in on a local secret or two. Because to journey with Melissa is to see Italy through new eyes, to experience both history and potential in every plate.
If you like your food and culture layered over thousands of years of history, this trip is for you. From the buzz of Florence’s markets to the Tuscan countryside, from serene gardens to the glamor of Rome by night, we’ll explore the most iconic corners of Italy from every angle, tasting everything as we go.

3 Reasons to Travel with Melissa Perello
Some people head West for fame and fortune; Melissa landed in California because of its ingredients. After years in the Bay Area dining scene, Italy soon beckoned and inspired her to open Frances, the Michelin-star San Francisco institution named after her grandmother.

Cucina Povera
Questions like “Why is Tuscan bread not salted” are what excite Melissa. To her, food and history are irreversibly intertwined and cucina povera (peasant cooking) is a testimony to the brilliance and resourcefulness of farmers and working-class chefs.
Grandma’s Kitchen
Melissa spent her summer vacations as a child with her grandmother, poring over Julia Child’s and Nathalie Dupree’s books, cooking and experimenting with their favorite recipes. When the time came to name her first restaurant, Melissa saw no better namesake than her grandmother: Frances.
No Ceiling in Sight
Only 6% of Michelin-starred chefs are women; among them is Melissa. She's also a three-time James Beard Foundation Rising Star Chef nominee and Best Chef West semifinalist, and she's only just getting started.

Where We Sleep

Beautifully curated accommodations—we’ll immerse ourselves in contemporary art in Florence, enjoy the quiet beauty of the Tuscan countryside, and feel like we’re part of the vibrant story of Rome
Gallery Art Hotel
FlorenceSet in a quiet courtyard just steps from the Ponte Vecchio, this intimate boutique hotel was dreamed up by a Florentine architect as a home away from home for art lovers, and its pleasingly minimalist interior doubles as a contemporary art space featuring rotating exhibits by the likes of Andy Warhol, Dave Lachappelle and Roberto Koch. Make like a local and head to the buzzy, indoor-outdoor terrace bar for exceptional cocktails.

Monteverdi Tuscany
Castiglioncello del TrinoroOutside your window, sprawling gardens give way to medieval streets and art galleries. Inside, every detail—from bed frames to the stone-hewn spa—is pure Tuscan elegance. The property is built in and around a medieval Tuscan village. While preserving the exterior facades, designer Ilaria Miani brings a modern touch without sacrificing any authenticity. Terraced gardens and a pool add to the charm.

Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Hotel
RomeMore than 2,000 years of Roman history are here in one gorgeous space. Ancient ruins of the baths of Diocletian are visible beneath the property's glass floors, and there’s no more quintessentially Roman setting than the hushed, soaring lobby. The hotel has every comfort you'd expect, and some that are wonderfully unexpected (like sunset cocktails at the poolside rooftop bar).

Each hotel became more beautiful, each quaint and modern and staffed by the greatest humans ever.
Every day we had a new surprise that blew my mind!
I loved the efficiency, service, quality and personal touch... an amazing time!

We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement for your trip costs; if your trip plans change for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to get medical help, emergency transport, and for theft, loss or damage of items while traveling. For best coverage, always insure the full trip cost within two weeks of your initial trip deposit and note that most ‘Cancel For Any Reason’ policies must be purchased on the date of your initial deposit.
-
What is the cancellation policy?
You may cancel on or before June 5, 2024 and receive a full refund minus a $500 per-person service fee. If you cancel on or after June 6, 2024 there is a 50% cancellation fee. On or after August 4, 2024 there is a 100% cancellation fee. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance as we are not able to make exceptions to this policy in cases of family/medical emergency or cases of the trip being canceled (see our Terms and Conditions for full details).
