If you love diving into art, culture and cuisine, join us on this optional post-retreat extension in Oaxaca. Designed for you and a guest, or solo, this optional three-night extension is your chance to explore deeper, recharge and relax, and experience more of the unforgettable colors, sights and sounds of Oaxaca—along with plenty of downtime to rest and recharge.
Oaxaca packs in so much of the complex, fascinating culture of Mexico. On this optional extension you’ll have more time to explore Oaxaca’s acclaimed restaurants and street foods, to shop local galleries and boutiques, or to relax poolside at our peaceful garden oasis of a hotel located in the heart of Oaxaca’s historic center. We’ve curated a few activities for you—including a market food tour and group celebration dinner—along with recommendations for local exploring or venturing outside the city to experience the deep-rooted culture and mesmerizing beauty of the landscapes.
“Oaxaca is a gift. Just the light and colors. And obviously—the food.” -Anthony Bourdain
Relax poolside at our peaceful urban oasis, or dive deep into the markets and shops of Oaxaca.
Our Oaxaca Chapter retreat is designed to broaden perspectives, deeply explore and, perhaps most important, create opportunities for YPO Bay Area Gold members to reconnect with one another, and to create lifelong memories and friendships.
Our optional four-day, three-night Oaxaca extensions gives you and your spouse or travel partner time to explore deeper, and to experience more—along with plenty of downtime to rest and recharge.
This precious time is yours to enjoy. Relax poolside, book a spa treatment or massage—or how about revitalizing your spirits with a visit to a local shaman, who’ll share the secrets of a cleansing ritual that’s been in practice here for thousands of years. Let us know, we can help organize it for you.
We’ll include recommendations for where to eat, and to shop for everything from artesanía and fashion, ceramics and art pieces—and for those rare, hard-to-source bottles of craft mezcal.
Highlights of our optional extension are a private group dinner in Oaxaca’s historic center, where we’ll celebrate and toast to each other; and the Zapotec village of Teotitlan del Valle, a weaving village with about 5,000 people (and 2,000 looms). We’ll meet a local Zapotec weaving family, who’ll demonstrate their intricate craft using natural fibers for dyes (and even a grounded insect for the bright reds), just as they have for the past 14 generations. A home-cooked Zapotec lunch awaits us, with a chance for us to learn and to prepare local recipes.
A peaceful oasis in Oaxaca City—our accommodations are small-scale and boutique, the ideal ways to get acquainted with Oaxaca life
Off a central side street, a few blocks from the zocalo and central shops and eateries, a street gate opens into a breathtaking oasis that’s our Oaxaca City home. Quinta Real is a boutique hotel with spacious rooms, garden spaces, a swimming pool, and an outdoor patio bar set in an expertly restored 16th-century convent that doubles as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in honor of the four centuries of history preserved in the building’s design.
We have heard from several of you that you'd like the option to extend your time on our Chapter retreats. We’ve heard you, and are offering an optional extension for those who want to spend more time in this unique part of the world. Extension trips are booked through this same website and are in partnership with Modern Adventure.
Three nights at unique, 4-star boutique accommodations; guided activities including an immersive visit to a Zapotec weaving village; departure airport transfer; local guides and cultural experts; daily breakfasts and one private group dinner.
International roundtrip airfare; activities not included in the itinerary; hotel incidentals including room service, laundry service, spa and massage fees, and hotel bar tabs; food and beverages not included in itinerary.
Our optional extension begins the afternoon that our Chapter retreat ends. We are staying at the same hotel, the Quinta Real, so no room change will be required. On our final day together, we will organize a complimentary transfer for all guests to Oaxaca International Airport (OAX).
US citizens are not required to have a visa for tourist visits to Mexico, but are required to show a valid US passport.
