Travel Tips for Everyday Adventures

Toad&Co believes in the power of the outdoors. Here's our toolkit to making any day an adventure.

live it like you mean it

Whether traveling across the globe or simply across town we always like to leave a little mental space and time to stop and proverbially smell the roses, scratch-n-sniff stickers, and that weird puppy breath smell. We keep our curiosity antennas in the upright position and eyes peeled for the cool, new, or different.

Living every day as an adventure is as much a mindset as it is a practice. Awaking each day ready to embark on a journey of curiosity, discovery and reward is a force to be reckoned with. Such a lifestyle, especially when traveling, does however require a certain level of physical and mental preparedness.

Let us begin with the mind.

When it comes to new things, scientific studies show we’re actually hardwired to seek out the new and novel. Turns out our brains release dopamine, the mouth-watering reward chemical, when exposed to anything new and different. That’s good news – it’s a big world out there and under every stone lies something potentially awesome. So find an underground Turkish hip hop show, determine if iguana really do taste like chicken, or just keep walking until something stops you in your tracks. Be hyper-aware of your senses and let them be your guide.

In regards to being physically prepared to live every day as an adventure (while wonderlusting), you need comfortable clothing that has your back. Searching for newness will often mean stepping outside your comfort zone, so what’s on your back better be comfortable.

Unfortunately, we often think our only option for truly functional/comfortable clothing is to zip up in an ill-fitting, bland looking travel safari suit. Well, let this be said once and for all: No one should ever have to dress the part of the zip-off-panted, mesh-pocketed travel commando.

Mark Twain

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do."

Functional clothes CAN look as good as they perform. From stupendous sunrise summits to long lavish lunches, the right clothing will answer the call with style and grace. The key is to find great looking clothes made from sustainable fabrics that breath, dry-quickly and shed wrinkles. These fabric traits allow garments to be worn for multiple days, in a variety of activities before needing to be washed – and dry quickly when they get dunked in the sink. We are big believers in the battle cry of wear-more and wash-less!

When properly executed, living everyday as an adventure is a deliciously refreshing, intoxicating and fulfilling cocktail. The list of ingredients is up to one’s individual pallet, just remember to keep your mind (and wardrobe) ready for anything.

Our five tips for leading your most adventurous life:

  • Ready your head
  • Seek the new and novel
  • Taste, touch, smell, look, listen
  • Pack clothes that look as good as they function
  • Always be humble. (But you knew that.)
